I’m a Muslim
An Important yet a Simple Question: Are you a Sunni or a Shiite?
If you said, “Sunni”
If you said, “Shiite”
If you named any other group or sect…
Still wrong answer!
Why you ask?
Well, because we are MUSLIMS!
A simple answer to a simple question.
Can anyone tell me, where Allah said that we should divide ourself into groups or sects?
We believe in One God. Do we need to divide ourself inspite of that?
What picture are we portraying to others when we say I’m a Shiite, or I’m a Sunni, or I’m a Bohri, or I’m a Wahhabi, etc.? We always say we need to unite if we want Islam to prevail..but how will that happen when we fight amongst ourselves?
There are certain Islamic talk shows where the host is seated with a Sunni and a Shiite Imam…how does that help? That increases the craziness in people as everywhere they are labelled as something or the other. I think our identity as Muslims is sufficient for us.
All this does not help in making our religion welcoming. It creates confusion in the minds of people entering our religion. Our values, traditions, morals as Muslims should not be divided. Allah has given our identity to us, we don’t need to create a new one!
Which group/sect did our Prophets belong to? If we are asked what will our answer be?
Allah says in the Quran:
وَاعْتَصِمُوا بِحَبْلِ الله جَمِيعًا وَلا تَفَرَّقُوا
And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. (Surah al Imran-103)
As for those who have divided their religion and become sects, you have no part (associated) in them in the least: Their affair is with Allah: He will in the end Tell them the truth Of all that they did.” (Surah Al-An’am-159)
Muslims we were, Muslims we are and Muslims we shall remain, InshaAllah!
